India's Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Friday took charge as the chairman
of the World Health Organization’s Executive Board
The WHO Executive Board has 34 members, who are technically qualified in the field of health.
Recently, Harsh Vardhan had delivered a long speech at the World Health Assembly regarding India's response to coronavirus.He had also hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi "leadership", which benefited not only India but also the world.
The 194-nation World Health Assembly is the decision-making body of the WHO.
The decision to elect India to the Executive Board for three years from 2020 was taken .
US President Donald Trump has even threatened to stop the WHO funding
The timing for taking the chairmanship of the WHO Executive Board shows how India’s stature has risen globally.
